How to strip all but certain chars from a string

It's easy (using CHRTRAN( Srce, "XYZ", "" ) ) to strip certain chars from a string, and it's easy to use a FOR loop to copy only accepted chars from one string to another, but I've always felt there must be a better way.

Here's one that is elegant:
