Applying a TopN Sort to a CrossTab in a Crystal report is possible, but not very intuitive. Here how it's done:
Start by selecting the CrossTab (click the top-left corner.
Use Report, TopN/Sort Group Expert...
Select TopN or BottomN (not All!) and select N that is large enough to accomodate all your values. Of course, if you want to restrict to Top 5 rather than show all categories, then you should specify 5 as the N value.
