DLM (Digital Line Monitor) connections

by  MitelInMyBlood  Posted    (Edited  )
For DNIC sets only:

The Digital Line Monitor (DLM) is an interface device used to record voice information from Mitel DNIC digital telephones or consoles using an externally-connected analog voice recorder. They will work with any DNIC set and any software load. The DLM is the size of a Mitel dataset, 8" x 10-1/2" x 1-1/2 and white in color. There are no buttons or controls on the DLM.

The unit connects in-series between the DNIC instrument and the PBX via RJ-11 connectors provided on the back of the unit.
Your recorder connects to the 25-pin connector.

There are 4 connectors on the unit.

Connector A is an RJ-11 that connects to the DNIC port of the pbx (tip & ring)

Connector B is the power connector. A standard Mitel 9v ac power cube @ 0.5 amps is required

Connector C is an RS-232 25-pin female jack for making the connections to your recorder. Wiring is as follows:

White-orange to orange white = 600 mv output. Blue-white is the center-tap. Output between the blue-white wire and either the white/orange or white/blue wires is 300 mv. In case the cable is missing, pinout on the connector is 23, 24 and 25. Pin 24 is the center-tap, so output levels will be 600 mv between pins 23 and 25 and 300 mv between pins 24 and 25 (or between pins 23 and 24). The DB-25 connector on the DLM is female, so you will need a male DB25 plug. You will only use pins 23, 24 and 25.

Connector D is an RJ-11 that connects to the DNIC instrument

Beep-tone output = 1400 Hz (providing it hasn't been disabled)

Beep tone cadencing 14.6 secs off, 0.4 sec on repeated at 15 sec intervals.

To disable the beep tone simply short pins 1 and 2 of the D-type connector (connector C) for 1 second. Note well: Disabling the beep tone is permanent. Once disabled it cannot be reenabled.

There is no signalling to start/stop the external recording device. It is assumed that your recorder is VOX (voice actuated) or else runs continuously.

DLM p/n 9132-800-600-NA originally included a 9-volt AC adapter & cables
AC adapter only 9141-300-001-NA

Both the DLM and it's power cube have long-since been Manufacture-Discontinued. However, as of October 2011 there are a few still available via the secondary market (Dean Enterprises 800-451-2089) - they also have aftermarket Beep-tone generators to go with them)

Mitel originally sold the DLM for approx $775 each when new. The DLM was introduced in LW30 Rls 2 (R-Stream). However, the DLM is not system-software dependent. It will work on any Mitel PBX that supports DNIC instruments (SS4DN, SS7DN Console, SS400 & SS4000 series phones). The DLM does not work with older SS4/COV or any new VOIP sets.
