I've spent the last two days searching the net for some information on VBScript. Problem is I don't have a programing background and the only sites I've found seem to assume the person reading already understands how computer languages work. Is there some book out there I can buy that will explain in very basic detail the 'sentence structure' of vbscript? All I see is objects, properties, methods, blah blah blah,,, It means nothing to me unless I can understand the basics of how and why the different elements of a script fit together to make things happen.

Hello Dryheat,

You first get the documentation of handy script56.chm. It is free download from ms site together with wsh5.6.

Other random thoughts you can take a look of this as well.

and try borrow the book of G. Born from the library see if you like it. Also ms has made the book by their scripting team "Windows 2000 Scripting Guide" (or about it) available online. The latter covers more in scope and depth on admin scripting.

my first book was one of the 'learn vbscript in 21 days' by sams i think
i dont use it now but it has been borrowed by lots of newbies and they all seemed to like it.

Thanks for the feedback. I went to Amazon.com and ordered two books:
"Windows 2000 Scripting Bible"

"Microsoft WSH and VBScript Programming for the Absolute Beginner"

For some reason I could not find "learn vbscript in 21 days"

My goal is to use this knowledge for office automation rather then web design. I think these books lean more in the direction I'm headed.

for office automation
hopefully when you installed office you have checked the VBA help files ...

Hope This Helps, PH.

Dryheat,

In that case, you will be much better off reading office vba specialized books (sometimes with vbs as related topics in large/small scale) and learn a couple of translation rules translating vba code to vbs.
