This may not be the correct forum and I am sort of embarrassed to post this. I am trying to use the Win XP search feature to find programs, forms, etc that have a certain text string, but the search doesn't even find "*" in my programs. I've selected "all files and folders" and put the text in the "word or phrase" box, but it doesn't find anything. Am I having a mental block here, or just doing something very basic wrong? It seems to search *.txt files ok, is there a setup feature somewhere of file types the search will skip or include in the search? I've seen a registry hack for it, but is that the only way to fix the search?

I get the same behaviour - how bizarre.

OK, not very helpful, but at least you know you're not alone :)

I guess it's something to do with * being a wildcard character.

Thanks ilyad for the link to Sergey Berezniker's tips. They look like exactly what I was looking for.
