Probably a stupid question but will any version of SQL Server 2000 instal on my home pc running Windows XP Pro.

If so which edition - I have a feeling it is the developer but any confirmation would be appreciated.

Also if any version will instal would it give me all the tools I need - what I need is Enterprise Manager and Query Analyser.

Many thanks.

Personal edition will install if you don't have the developer edition. Yes it gives you enterprise manager and query analyzer, but not all the functionality of the full edition. THe main thing I noticed missing is full-text search which must have a server operating system to run. I'm sure there are other things, but we have a very complex database that we run off a PC in a kiosk for demos and most everything will run.

Questions about posting. See faq183-874

Thanks SQLSister

I have tried instaling the Personal Edition but I keep getting a message saying that cant instal as there is already an installation of SQL Server on the machine.

There isnt - well not as far as I can tell anyway !

Any ideas what is going on ?

Cheers

Sounds like you have installed sql server with another product.
Try installing a named instance.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Thanks for that - but what do you mean by a named instance and how would I go about instaling one ?

Cheers
