When running exactly the same report in both versions I get a different number of records. Does anyone have any idea how this could happen?

We had a similar problem when moving from 8.5 to 10. It was actually an ambiguous selection statement that was being differently interpreted.

Check the SQL from both - you find it under Datebase> Show SQL. Maybe post it here for some SQL expert to figure.

Here is one possible reason:

In 11.0 there is an option to enforce joins whether or not fields are used from two different tables. If you had set a join to be enforced but did not include a field from the second table, in 11.0 you could get fewer records than in 8.5, where the join would be enforced only when a field from the second table was added.

I am reporting from one table so the issue with the joins doesn't come into play. Also when I select database, the show sql query is faded out so I'm guessing that's not the issue idea. Any other ideas?

Perhaps you have one version set to select distinct records.

have removed the option to selct distinct records for browsing, is there another option not just for browsing? This returns the same results.

You ought to be able to see your report's SQL. If it's faided out, maybe that's part of the problem.

the database is reporting from a dbf file so does that mean sql doesn't come into it?

To check for select distinct, go to database->select distinct records--see if it is checked in one version and not in the other.

Unlike Crystal 8.5, Crystal XI will not allow you to insert statements into Show SQL Query (at least, in the XI version I have). That essentially means using the Add command or SQL Expression to supplement the selection.
