Hi All

I need to set text on a Word document to 40mm from the left hand edge of a document. The document has no margins as it has an image pasted onto the whole page.

If I make a text box, I can't see any way of setting the left edge at 40mm, and if I try and set the internal margin of the text box to 40mm, I can't find a way of snapping the left edge to the left side of the page.

I am rather new to this as I usually use InDesign and Quark.

thanks for any help.

Hi,

In File > Page Setup, set the left margin to 40mm and all the other margins to 0.

Ignore the warning.

for a NUANCE![tongue]

Does this not then shift my background image across 40mm?

If it's an in-line shape, I believe.

Indeed.

Frankly, if you require serious layout you should stick with InDesign or Quark. Word can wonky doing this kind of thing.

Yeah, unfortunately i've got to set some templates up for a client.

Hmmm. BTW: what kind iof "textbox"?

Gerry

Sorry not to be more help, but one with a frame round that I then change to no frame. Is there other types?

Is there other types? Yes indeed.

So, let me get this straight. You are putting in a Shape textbox via Insert > Textbox, and then changing it to an InlineShape textbox by changing it to no frame?

Please describe precisely the steps you are taking.

Gerry

This all sounds rather confusing, what with backgrounds and textboxes and I'm not sure what else.

Let me second Gerry's requests for precise detail of what you want and what you have. I appreciate that this may not be easy if you are unfamiliar woth Word, but we really need to know more detail to be able to help.

Enjoy,
Tony
