Hello! I'm trying to create a link to a "read-only word document" from my website.

<A HREF="C:\User Guide.doc" target="_new">User Guide</A>

When I try to use this link, the word document opens but if I click on the table of contents, the document gives me a prompt saying the document has been modified and asks me if i wanna save the changes.

How do I make it not prompt for anyting? I already put the property of the document to read-only but it's still asking me to save.

Please help. Thanks!

When you create a link for MS-Word document like your code, the new instance of browser asks for your permission to Open/Save the document in browser regardless of the Read-Only properties set on that document. If you say Open, then the document opens in browser, Save will prompt you to save it on local drive.
The bookmarks and links inside the document works fine.
Check if any other process is using that same file and making some changes to it...

Sharing the best from my side...
