word 200 template problem

I am trying to save a word document as a word template. I followed the help information and saved the file as a template file (dot).
But when I open it I can still move all the fields around on the document and I thought they were to remain "frozen" so to speak and not moveable.

I'm attempting to make a report template and just want to be able to jump from field to field and enter data in.

What have I done wrong in setting up my template to allow this to happen? Thank you in advance..

You haven't really done anything wrong, template just give you like a 'Standard Letter', it's still possible to format them, just in case you need to e.g. If you wanted to change 'Dear Sir/Madam' to 'Dear Bob'.

If you're actually using fields, try this that I got out of the MS Word help file on 'lock field':

"To lock a field and prevent changes to the current field results, click the field, and then press CTRL+F11"
