Wired network problems with Irix 6.2

Greetings everyone,

We have an Onyx 2 running Irix 6.2 and use it for r&d.

We switch the server on when we need to use it. A few days ago I switched it on, only to find that it had somehow lost its 2nd IP address on ef0 and unable to contact the DNS server.

Here is the network configuration of the server:
Network Interface ef0: 134.0.0.1 /255.255.255.0
2nd IP on ef0: 192.168.1.20 /255.255.255.0

Resolv.conf has not been modifed at all and settings are:
search ourdomain.com
nameserver 192.168.1.1
nameserver 192.168.1.2

The static-route.options has never been changed and also contains a route for the default gateway:
$ROUTE $QUIET add default 192.168.1.1

When booting the server, if I type ifconfig and only the 134.0.0.1 address is binded, so I manually give it the 192.168.1.20 address.

After this is complete the following this is what I get:
1)I can ping the gateway (192.168.1.1)
2)DNS lookups fail , e.g 'ping gateway' fails to resolve.
3)Using nslookup (server = 192.168.1.1) works fine!

These are the major problems I am having. There are a few more, but I would like to resolve these ones first as they are most important.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

did you check the /etc/nnswitch.conf file? hosts line should have files nis dns...
