Im having a problem with a user trying to access our mainframe. His computer has W2000.

When he trys to access our mainframe (through FacetWin, which i've uninstalled and reinstalled), windows times out with a winsock error. He can access anything else on our network or the internet with no problem or winsock error.

What could this be?

Hello kjonnnnn,

How do you point the workstation to the mainframe ?
You might want to verify the TCP/IP configuration of the workstation to make sure the DNS and WINS servers are properly configured.
If you point to the mainframe using computer name, wou need to verify WINS configuration.
If you point to the mainframe using FQDN, you need to verify DNS configuration.
If you donot have DNS or WINS servers, edit the HOSTS file (for DNS) or the LMHOSTS file (for WINS) to point to the proper IP address for the mainframe.

P.S. make sure not to use the .sam files since they are only sample files.

If you need info on how to do this, let me know.

Let me know if this helps ! S. Gagner

Thanks. I think was a hub that was stuck on stupid. All the connection lights were, even the one with no connections. So I powered it off and on. And no problem now.
