Yesterday, i upgraded my xp to service pack 2, later i found out after running every 3-4 hours xp automatically restarts.
the restart is just like a normal restart, not just suddently goes to black screen and restarts.
i scanned the system, and no virus was found.

this really is bugging me

anyone knows how to solve this problem?

thanks in advance

Usually critical errors cause the system to restart. When the computer restarts, hit F8 in the boot sequence. It should show a option to disable reboot on error. Next time it happens it should just freeze and show a screen full of information. You can debug things from there.

thanks glenn
i followed your advice
now, i will wait and see what will happen after 3-4 hours

also have a look in the event log (run eventvwr.msc) - there should be some entries in there around the restart time.

btw - how old is the installation? (as sp2 has been out nearly 4 years.... and sp3 now available, wondering why only applying sp2 now). Any previous problems with it?
