Windows Won't Load - Hangs with red hue

Hope someone can help.

Dell Optiplex - When I attempt to boot the machine, it get's to the splash screen - you see the thick "dashed" progress bar and about 3/4 of the way to complettion - all items on the screen take on a red hue and it hangs.
I deleted all spy and adware and no virus' were found.
It will boot in safemode.
I attempted to use last "good configuration", no change.
I downloaded an updated video driver from Dell, but no change.

Dell Optiplexes are the bane of my life - we have thirty or so and all without exception have had this or other bizzare problems due to imminent hard disk failure screwing up drivers or dll's.

I hope this is not your problem, but its worth downloading the hard disk testing utility from Maxtor and running that across the HD - don't be surprised if it shows problems or a system re-install fails.

seeing that you can get into safe mode, try running sfc /scannow to check/repair your system files or sfc /scanboot
