I recently upgraded my Win2K DC to Win2K3R2. After my upgrade I noticed under Event viewer that it was reporting that this DC was out of licenses. Under License Manager my licensing info was gone. I added my licenses back in which resolved the problem.

I notice that everytime I reboot my server, I lose my licensing information. Has anyone had this problem?

How do you resolve it?

Ive had it happen before, best thing to do is just disable license logging service and dont worry about it.

After the upgrade, I noticed the Win2K licenses were gone. I immediately added the 100 CALs back in by opening License Manager, then selecting New License.

Under Purchase history it shows 100 CALs purchased. I never get the server is out of licensines anymore, until I reboot the server.

Is this the proper way of registering Licenses under Win2K3R2?

You can't use W2K licenses for a W2K3 server.

Why does everyone keep referring to Win2K licenses? Are you talking about license disks???? Becuase this is what it sounds like.

I am enrolled in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Program whcih doesn't have licenses disks to my knowledge.

Am I missing something?

Because you mentioned win2k licences....

As long as you have 100 (or however many need) CALS for windows 2003, ie your VLP program says you have 100 windows 2003 CALS, then just disable the licencing service, you don't need it..

I didn't mention anything about Win2K licenses. I was responding to 58Sniper and Davetoo's response. Couldn't understand why they were getting into more detail when it wasn't clearly needed.

Your response as well as Roadkill's should have been all that was required.

Thanks.

I beg to differ:

We were asking to make sure we understood the problem. We can't accurately answer a question if we don't understand it.

As Pat indicates, we were responding to what you actually wrote. Whether or not what you wrote is actually what you meant we can't determine, but I'd guess you didn't?

You clearly mentioned your W2K licenses weren't showing up in your new W2K3 environment...as well they shouldn't. There was a concern, at least on my part, that you didn't purchase new 2003 CAL's, in which case you were facing a legal issue because of that.

Your offense at our responding to the information that you provided is interesting...and somewhat disappointing. Perhaps you'd like to offer an apology to those involved for your reaction?
