I installed a HP Inkjet 2280TN (AIX 433). This printer has two paper trays. One tray I want to use for special paper.

When creating queues for pcl, hpgl and postspript outputs I found, that the available definitions for pcl and hpgl let me
define a papertray in 'default print jobs attributes'. This field is missing when using the generic postscript printer.

The problem is, that all clients printing into to PS-queue got there paper from the lower tray except of two machines, that use the upper tray as default.

Who knows, how to define a default paper tray with postscript
option. Is there anyone who go a similar problem?

(HP-homepage is NO help! I fear they can´t imagine that
anybody may use HP-printer with UNIX).

The key here is that the 'generic' PostScript virtual printer has the 'ci' (command to initialize) the printer set to NULL (nothing), so there is no printer initialization happening. There are a couple ways to solve the problem. The easiest is to find a printer type with similar PostScript setup commands and use that one with minor modifications. The second is to actually customize the virtual printer by starting with the ci attribute.
You can actually put the PJL command directly into ci, but it is probably better to use a different attribute.

The manuals are actually pretty good on this customization, but it's not for the weak of UNIX skills. Also see more docs on the virtual printers at web site below:
