Is there some way that I can create a report that will tell me which CR uses which table? I'm using CR 10 Advanced w/ CE 10 on Win 2K3 and IIS6 w/ SQL Server.

ie: Report 1 uses table32, table40 and table 24
Report 2 uses table 1, table 4 and table 9
etc...

I'd like to learn of a method to do this easily myself.

One cheat might be to schedule reports X minutes apart, and then turn on the SQL Server Tracing, that way you'll not only know the data sources, you'll know the SQL passed.

You might check with the 3rd party firms listed in the link below to see if their documentation products will state the data source used. Unfortunately the REPORT DEFINITION export in Crystal does not.

Export your report and for the export format, choose report definition. This creates a .txt file which has lots of useful information, including the tables used.

Don: I just tried it again and it doesn't have the tables used, unless you mean deriving it from the field names used throughout the report.

Another difficult way to build a list of tables used.

I'll be surprised if none of the utils have yet to address this basic functionality.

k,

If you want one, just say the word.

Sounds great, Dave, thanks.

My email is crystalreports using hotmail.

I recall that you were working on such a thing, but I hadn't realized that you'd finished it.

Did Dave forget to mention that it's available for 3 easy payments of $39.95, and it comes with a Juicewhizzergunsuknife thingy...

Might want to consider getting it on the market, Dave.

Jeez, can of worms, or what?

OK kids, this thing I've got has a lot more functionality than what we're discussing here, but the app as a whole is not ready for mass consumption.

However, to be nice, I'm putting together a stripped-down version that will allow you to pick a list of reports, then enter a table or stored proc name, and get a list of which of the chosen report(s) are using that table or procedure. I'll also add in something that will show you the list of tables in each of the chosen reports.

Give me a day or two to reverse engineer some of my stuff.

So as to not clutter up the forum, please send any other requests to:

Hi everyone,

I had an app where it used a different table name for each financial year for some modules. I used Cortex Systems Report Analyzer to examine all the reports and give me a summary of which table was used in which report. Saved me hours of work checking each report.

Hi, Include me in the request as well, this would be a great benefit.

Dave,

Since there seems to be general interest in your "stripped down" application, and you seem to be willing to make it generally available, maybe you should make it available on a website for downloading and reference it in a FAQ. You've probably already thought of this...

Please include me in the strip down version
