What is the method used to create a web application: - using iis5.0 to create a web application - using VI to create a project and a new web application thanks ted

You can do either. If you have created a web application in IIS, you can point at that project in VID and start coding. If you dont have one created, VID will create one for you when you start a new project.

IF YOU CREATE A WEB APPLICATION THRU IIS - WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE - AND THEN IN VI where do u pick up that web application?is it thru the wizard?

thanks for your response!

You would create a new project in VID. Point to the
server and the screen (step 2 of 4) asks if you want to create a new web application or connecte to an existing web application. Click the radio for the second and then select the existing apps name.

yes - that is what i thought to do - but the existing apps name does not appear on step 2? Maybe i did not create in correctly in IIS? Is it a virtual directory i must create - right click on my default web sute - new- create virtual directory? Is that the correct way to create a web apps in IIS 5.0?

HOW DO I ASSIGN A HOST HEADER TO MULTI -WEB SITES THRU ISM?
DO I DO IT THRU THE WEB DEFAULT SITE - FIRST DO I CREATE A VIRTUAL DIRECTORY OR A NEW SITE - WHICH OF THE TWO DO I CREATE? DO I CREATE 2 VIRTUAL WEB SITES OR 2 WEB SITES - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO? ALSO I ACN ONLY ASSIGN DIFFERENT HOST HEADERS THRU PROPERTIES ON MY DEFAULT WEB SITE - NOT THRU VIRTUAL WEB SITES - RIGHT?

Actually, at screen 2 you say 'Create New Web' and type in the name of the EXISTING web. This will NOT delete the web, but add in the extra bits and bobs that VI needs - _Private, _Scriptlibrary, global.asa etc. Most importantly, it adds the web to Frontpage so that it will appear in the 'Existing Webs' list on screen 2 of the Create a New Web dialog in the future (ie for other developers).

I know it seems pretty stupid, but thats just the way it works. (Content Management)
