western digital usb 2.0 issues

i'm having so serious problems with my western digi 120GB usb 2.0 hd. it's very sometimish it works well for about 5 mins then windows stops recognizing it. but if i disable enhanced pci it picks it up easily enough.BUT i transfer at usb 1.0 as you can imagine thats next to worthless. I'v tried
1) unplugging and replugging back in (2 many times)
2) Shutting down and restarting
3) Switching USB Cables

Go into device manager and remove the USB ports. Reboot and let Windows recognize them again.
