Losing Tray icons

The problem started several weeks ago after adding some new software to my main PC, which already has a lot of Apps on it.
The PC boots-up normally into WIN98 (4.10.1998).
The items in Startup execute normally and I have 5 tray icons visible.
After opening certain programs (for the first time), the "illegal operation" error is displayed (Explorer caused invalid page fault in KRNL386.EXE).
Closing the window allows the program to proceed normally, but now all the tray icons are gone (except for Volume Control). The programs from these tray icons are still active, as I can see them listed when pressing CTL+ALT+DEL. This occurs only once during a session, but the icons
never return, unless I reboot, which starts the process all over again.
No other functions seem be affected.
It's not a big problem, but is annoying, and I would like to find a way to fix it. Any suggestions?
Dave

<a href= Computer Systems & Networking Services
Any time Explorer (or sometimes Internet Explorer, depending on your system) closes, this'll happen. What programs are causing Explorer to shut down?
Liam Morley
lmorley@wpi.edu
<a href=] :: imotic :: website :: [
"light the deep, and bring silence to the world.
Here's a Micro$oft freeware app that might help.

<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> RegClean.exe analyzes Windows Registry keys stored in the Windows Registry. It finds keys that contain erroneous values, and after recording those entries in a Undo.Reg file, it removes them.

I've found that this proggie can solve many similar problems.

Give it a try, It might help.

Good luck

RaTTuS

LIAM -
The programs that cause it are Corel Draw, Quickbooks, BlakJak (MS game).
They previously worked OK.
MS Word, Quicklink, Net Objects does NOT cause it (???)

Rattus -
I downloaded and tried REGCLEAN, but it did not help.

<a href= Computer Systems & Networking Services
Precisely what 'New software' have you added?
