VPN Server in a DMZ

I am trying to move our VPN server into our DMZ. I have GRE and 1723 open to the Server address, and have the server logging onto the Windows domain. I can't seem to get the VPN client to authenticate to the VPN server though. Any suggestions.

Do the clients actually authenticate to the PDC or does the VPN server handle the authentication process?

I can ping the VPN server and I get the Verifying username and password but that is all I get. I also don't get any type of logging on the VPN server at all..
