I have a VPN Client in Win 98.
I can log and get autheticated.
I can ping the VPN server.
I can ping the router WAN IP.

I CANNOT see any file servers, however.
I am running NT 4.0 with a PDC
and Novell 4.11 (IPX and IP)

I've tried it with a gateway in IP on the
the remote...and without a gateway....with
and without a WINS server.

Any combo lets me log in.

Anyone have any ideas?
VPN is really a virtual (not actually hardlinked like an ethernet card hooked to a hub) private (not public access to everyone) network (bunch of connections all together) a VPN is supposed to allow a network of people over an existing connection such as the internet, thus making it virtual and private.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

Perhaps I was not clear.
I can log in and authenticate.
I can ping my IP address.

I cannot see my servers however, in network neighborhood
or in Find/Computer.

How do I actually map myself to my network drive.

well first of all (this sounds like a generic networking question) you need to turn on File Sharing (and print sharing if you want others to be able to print at your location) then in explorer, right click the drive, chose sharing, then you can Share As .. give it a name, and set who you want to be allowed to access it. also Make sure you have TCP/IP installed for the networking device you are using (I think you can do IPX instead, but I recomend the TCP/IP protocal) now the other way around is, if you can see the person's computer say /PC04/C, right click the directory "C" and Chose Map As Drive.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

I have the same problem, have tried all the suggestions offered, and still no go. Any new ideas?

Interestingly, a pc on the win98 peertopeer LAN can go to the windows Explorer Address bar, enter \\MachineName and browse the remote VPN client (thereafter the VPN client is visable to network neighborhood from that pc)
but...
the VPN client cannot do that to any pc on the LAN ever though the LAN pc's have file sharing enabled and their c drives are shared to anyone with no password as is the VPN client.

I cant think of much more, in my opinion Microsoft's VPN is rather weak and poor.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

please help i want to know if i can set up a vpn between my win98se machine and a win98se network that i have to remotley administer i have resonable networking skills and would like to thank any body in advance for any heip

first of all why do you need a VPN between two computers?, secondly if you are just trying to network them together locally, (like having one computer downstairs), you do not need VPN, simple LAN networking will work. So I feel if we knew what your goal is, we could probally help you get there much less painfully.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)
