vmstat command

Hi there just new AIX, I used the command vmstat 2 20 and I found out that I have a negative numbers under the avm. Is it having a performance problem, and what is your recommendation. My paging space is 45% of usage..

Hello,

a simply law is that you should use the double memory space as your paging space, please check at first.
Also check the traffic on your physical disks. The command therefore is "iostat". Perhaps you can switch some filesystems to other places? Further on you've the commands "filemon" and "svmon" for monitoring filessystems or showing you the current status of your memory spaces.

Morsing got to it before I did. Negative? numbers. You have a problem and it doesn't have to do with pages.

i'm running 432 with ML 02. But we are planning to update to 433. What would you recommend? Because I beleive RML 02 is the last level we have for the 432 level.

since you asked, i would suggest version 5.1 simply because it will give you a longer support period. however you should check with your application support and/or IBM to verify which version(s) of AIX are supported.

AIX 4.3.3 goes up to ML 10, but you will probably get that. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation
