Greetings....trying to re-image daughters pc....came with Vista...sucked...donwgrading to XP. It is a:

Compaq Presario SR5310F
Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS IPILP-LCHP/Compaq name: Lancaster8-GL6
Chipset Intel 945GC

Of course Compaq does not have the drivers for XP (they suck), and I cannot find the drivers from anywhere.

Have you tried the Manufacturers Page for each component?

For instance Intel has XP Drivers for their Chipset, and Integrated Graphics card:

And Realtek has their High definition Audio Drivers for XP

For the rest, Windows XP will likely find and install it.

There is no guarantee that there will be drivers every time somebody wants to do a downgrade, but your hardware is pretty common so you'll likely be lucky. A word of advice for others - CONFIRM drivers are available before you start the process. Not the other way around.

The other issue is licensing - there is no downgrade option (legally) for Vista to XP other than Business and Ultimate versions.

You wouldn't want to cheat Microsoft out of an XP license now, would you?

..yaa...that didn't work still can't find the exact drivers

Hi ho, hi ho, it's back to Vista you go. Whistle all the way............ or upgrade to Windows 7. It might be a little more friendly and perform a little bette.r

Why is it evil??? Or were you referring to me?? The technology clock is not standing still. XP compatible hardware will slowly be going away or should I say the drivers for XP on newer hardware will.

I've seen numerous posts like this, you are one of the few that haven't been able to go back, but that percentage will steadily be going up.

..yaa...that didn't work still can't find the exact drivers

huh?

The links are to the general drivers for that hardware. There is no driver more specific than that. The Driver works on most hardware pieces by both Intel and Realtek

For instance: Here's the driver for the Graphics Accelerator a.k.a video card
DwnldID=16835&ProdId=2115&lang=eng

and here's the one for the audio:

As goombawaho pointed out, there's no guarantee there will be drivers for everything. But the general Audio and video drivers are at least there.

Full disclosure: I never checked the suggested links for accuracy, so I was going with what the OP said after THEY checked the links.

If the OP can't tell that it's the right/wrong driver for his machine, then we have another problem on our hands.

You can always try any (Vista) driver on an XP machine and SEE if it works.

I cannot see another way, unless I move to 7...I just love putting more money in Gates' pocket

Well, if you're not going to be more specific about which drivers you tried and what problems you're having... then yea, Windows 7 sounds like a good plan.

Well I finally got it....removed USB's and added them
again, and found the proper Ethernet driver..yay!, be
sure to be keeping that around

I have been an XP fan since it came out in 2001, I vowed to never ever ever switch from it. I have to say, I bought Seven Professional, and I have to say, I can't live without it, some of the features are simply amazing, and I had to download comparable freeware on my work PC to have things like aero-snap, and so on.

Think of Vista as Millenium, and Seven as the New XP ;). Plus if it had Vista, Seven Basic or Home should run on it without a problem.

Beware of hackers bearing executables. Happy Hunting. 'irc.2600.net'
