I recently tried to update my video driver and in doing so have seemed to mess up my system.

I have an ATI Radeon 7500 in my IBM T42 notebook. I've been emailing ATI customer support for help, but nothing they suggested work. They continued to suggest reinstalling the catalyst drivers, though when I do I receive an error message saying, "INF error, no video driver installed"

I need someone to help think outside of the box. The thread below seems to have the same problem, but doesn't resolve it. If anyone can offer an opinion I'd appreciate it.

You could try a re-installation of the OS (which seems a little drastic) but first do a search for 'ATI driver cleaner' and have a look at some of the 3rd-party uninstallers out there. It sounds like the new drivers are trying to uninstall the old ones but failing somehow, so you may have some luck with a utility to completely remove them. Once that's done you can try installing the new ones again.

Oh, I almost forgot - if you're running Windows XP have you tried System Restore to a point before things went wrong?

Try going into safe mode & removing the drivers from there.
With a laptop you are better off going to the manufacturers website for updated drivers as they tend to be slightly different for the mobile chips.
