Hi,
I am having a very strange problem with my BCM50. For some reason, The avaya 1220 IP phones keep losing connection after a while ( at random times ). We attached a laptop to the phone and did a continuous ping to the bcm50 and never got one loss even after the IP phones went down. We changed the DNS on the phones to the ip address of the BCM50 but no luck. We even gave the phones a static IP address, but same thing occurred. We know it is not a cable fault because all the 1220 IP phones are having the same problem and it only started about 3 days ago. that has ever happened to anyone before?

Check the alarms first to see if there is any packet loss.

I had a system today with ip phones not getting dial tone .
I rebooted the system and the phones worked again
 
Get your system patched current. There was an issue a while back regarding IP phones losing connectivity for no apparent reason. Patch fixed it.
 
we checked the alarms on the bcm50 and there was nothing of relevance, the alarm light does not show anything wrong. however, we will check for updates like telcodog suggest and let you guys know. thanks for the input.
 
The BCM50 current version is 6.0.2.05.237, does the patch work on that version? if so where is it located? can you send me a link?
 
You really need to log into Element Manager and go to

"Administration" then "Software Management" followed by "Software Update History".

Look for the date of the last few patches that were applied such as e.g.

BCM050.R200.SU.System.015

This example gives you the proper BCM version and software release number. This one is for a BCM 50 release 2 system patch 015. Post your patches here as we can tell you if they are out of date.

Looking at that information, i suspect it really does need updating. but where do i get the latest version?
 
Oh dear!. The last BCM 50 system patch was issue 270 and the desktop one was issue 265. You certainly need to get hold of the patches and update the system.

Success! the patched worked, the IP Phones don't lose connection to the server. Thanks for all your help

Sorry to say, but it seems the problem still exist. it just takes more time to lose connection. is there anything else i can check?
