VB6 and Visual SourceSafe

When I open a VB 6.0 project under SourceSafe control and try to check out a file (right-click on file in project explorer and select check out), the file I right-click on doesn't get checked out. Rather the second file under the designers folder always gets checked out. This is happening in more than project.

After this occurs, I can't exit VB. I press the close button and nothing happens!

Anybody seen this?
