Variable length On-net extensions single site

Has anyone ever created variable length on-net extensions for a single site? For example a hotel wants rooms to be 5 digit extensions, but staff extensions to be 4 digit. I do not recommend doing this, but wanted to hear others' experience if they have done such a thing.

It's not optimal but it will work as long as its planned properly. Make sure you keep the four digit extensions in their own range, eg, if they start with a 2xxx, there should be no five digit numbers starting with a 2 that are five digits. With 90000 other DNs available that should not be an issue for a hotel.
