Hi,

I've used Micorosoft's DHTML component as the heart and soul of my Content Management System but in some cases when a user tries to edit their website using the system they get asked for an Office 2000 CD!

I've been looking around and it appears to be somehting to do with the setup of MS Office on the users machine.

Does anyone know a good way around this issue wiothoutr having to physically be at the users computer?

Cheers very much this issue is turning into a nightmare for me at the moment![bigears]

I cannot say for sure whether the component comes with IE6 or not, but checking the "requirements" section on Microsoft's site for the DHTML control:

says:

MSDN said:
The DHTML Editing Component requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5. In fact, the component is an integral part of Internet Explorer 5, and if you have the browser installed, the component is already available to you.

Note Early beta versions of Internet Explorer 5 did not contain the DHTML Editing Component. Be sure you have upgraded to the released version of Internet Explorer 5.

Is it possible the people for who it does not work did not have IE5 installed, or used the beta version (regardless of whether they are running IE6 or not)?

If this is the case, the MSDN article goes onto talk about a downloadable version of the component SDK:

MSDN said:
If Internet Explorer 5 is Not Practical

Two scenarios might make it impractical for you to require Internet Explorer 5:

Environments not ready for Internet Explorer 5 The application will be used in an environment where users must use Internet Explorer 4 instead of Internet Explorer 5.
Web-based applications You are creating a Web-based application, and users might access your application with different types of browsers.
In these cases, do not develop your application using the Internet Explorer 5 version of the DHTML Editing Component. Instead, use Internet Explorer 4 and use the earlier version of the DHTML Editing Component. The earlier version can be downloaded as an SDK from Dynamic HTML Editing Component SDK. The earlier version supports almost all the functionality of the current version, and you can upgrade from the earlier to the current version without code changes at a later time.

Hope this helps,
Dan
