Hi
OK this is for my home network, I want to have a SuSE7.2 server to act as my firewall, ssh server, so on, I have put two network cards into it, and configured eth0 to use DHCP, I have a cable modem and if I connect my Windows XP box to the modem (via cat5) I get a address via DHCP, but when I connect my Linux box I dont??
This is what getting me, I cant even ping the modem if I fix my IP on my Linux box (using the IP, Gateway, Subnet Mask given to my XP box), but I can ping the modem when I reconnect it to my XP box, I am really stumped to what is the problem here.
I am not a total beginner with this, so I have done all the standard checks, ie cables and so on, Linux TCP/IP is working OK as if I set a static ip (192.168.0.254) on the Linux box, and then connect my XP box to my hub (192.168.0.253) they can both talk to each other without any problem.
Sorry I am going on a bit, but I have found it hard to explain the problem, I am guessing that DHCP would respond to any request, ie it would not be able to see the difference between a Windows or a Linux box.
Anyway, any help would be great.
