Hi,

A couple of times a week our intranet stops working and you get a message saying 'unspecified error' followed by a series of digits. Restarting the IIS service fixes the problem but it would be good to try and figure out why it's happening. I've tried looking in the event log and nothing seems to be wrong there. Are there additional tools I can use to try and diagnose the problem? The server is running Windows 2000 server.

Thanks very much

Ed

Have all patches been applied to that 2000 server? What service pack level is it running at? Is it Standard server? What version of IIS are you running and is it fully patched? What about hardware - have you diagnosed any potential hardware issues? Can you copy/paste the error message here so we can see exactly what it says?

good luck,

I had "freezes" on IIS 6 under Windows Server 2003. I "solved" it this way.
Open IIS Manager, right-click on your App Pool, select Recycling, check Maximum Virtual Memory and set it to a large value that is smaller than the virtual memory on the machine. Use Permon to determine how much you are using now. If a Recycle occurs, it wll be recorded in the Event Log

Also run Perfmon to a log for 24 hours and record requests per second and some memory sizes.
