The network admin before myself purchased a server, installed Unix, and was subsequently fired. I need to find out how to uninstall this operating system from this server. It is set to boot from hard disk first and is password protected so I cannot enter the system.

As you can tell, I don't know a whole lot (nothing) about Unix. Is there a way to configure the boot order, such as in Windows, so I can boot from a floppy and fdisk? To the point, how do I remove Unix in this scenario?

Thanks,
Mick

If this post is here is because you have an Alpha Server, from Compaq or the later "DEC". If not, you will have a completely diferent ballgame.

If indeed is an ALPHA, you need to determine what you will install in it after removing UNIX. OpenVMS or NT 4.0?

Why remove it in the first place? What were your site's expectations on the server? Can they still be accomplished with UNIX?

There are ways to get that password... Just search in here for keywords like lost password for root "root is your Administrator Account"

Good luck!
