dear members,

i m trying to invoke rsh on other machine. it gets invoked but it demands password. i don't want that, b'se i need to invoke it programmatically. i m also not able to do rsh as root of other machine. is it possible to rsh as root b'se for telnet it is not possible. i have created the .rhosts as required, enable tcp/ip services, disabled firewall, made suitable entries in /etc/hosts file, /etc/hosts.allow etc.

waiting for solution

You have to make sure the user id numbers are the same and check the access rights on the .rhosts file. 600

dear morsing

changing the access rights of .rhosts to 600 will allow only root to read it which we don't want. what do u mean by having same user id. please specify it.

only root to read it which we don't want

Then you're kind of stuck.
With same user id I mean that the user has to have the same id number on the to computers.
