Hi,
We have Cognos installed on Windows environment. And to refresh the cubes overnight, we make use of Cognos scripts which are invoked through a batch file.

When refreshing the cube through batch script, we got the following error message:
"(TR1901) PowerPlay Data Server failed to delete a backup file. (Commit/Rollback) in <pathname><.mdc filename>"

The above cube was successfully built the previous night, but it gave the above error in the next run.

Has anyone faced a similar situation or does know the reason for the error message? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Sounds like the PC/Server which was building the cube ran out of disk space or another process (?anti-virus agent) interrupted the routine.

Check the resources of the target data area (the scratch disk for the build). It would also be wise to remove any check point files (*.qy*), having first ensured transformer is not running.

Hi drlex,
Thanks for the reply...

The PC has 68 GB of hard-disk space with 58 GB still unused.
And regarding the check-point files should I remove any .qyi files before starting the cube refresh process..?

Thanks,

TR1901 is usually a memory error. Ensure you have enough disk space available in the location the mdc is being saved to, enough disk space in the temporary build location, and enough RAM on the processing machine.

Pain is stress leaving the body.

I echo DD's sentiments and confirm the need to delete *.qyi files. Remember to check that transformer is not active first.

Hi,
The PC has 3.75GB RAM and a 3.2GHz processor with 67.8GB hard-drive.

Moreover, inspite of the error, the log file of the Transformer records entry for successful completion of the cube creation/updation.

But, when I view the cube in PowerPlay, all the measures are displayed as "N/A".

I run multiple cube refresh jobs concurrently with an interval of 1 hour. Would increasing the interval help to cleanup the temp space...?

Regards,

If the log file says that the cube is properly built.
Where are you putting the generated MDC file ? Is it created in the same folder where the previous run is ??

Then if the previous mdc is in used , transformer can not overwrite it with the newest version.

You have to move the generated cube in another folder to share it to the users , or disable it before the cube creation ( not the best option) to make sure that nobody hold it.

Hi,
The mdc file gets generated in the same folder where the previous run had generated the cube.

But, once the cube is built, I copy the mdc file to another folder for the users to access it through Upfront.

By the way, can you please let me know how to disable a cube..?

Regards,

There is a lots of threads explaining it , but the basic thing is to use the PPADMTOOL from the CERx/bin folder.
