I am looking at a customer's network for a project we are running. They currently have 8 identical switches, 4 of which are stacked (using backplane technology) @ 2.4Gbps, they then link the other 4 switches off this stack @ 1Gbps ethernet.

AFAICS, this causes a bottle neck!

Would it be better to stack the switches in 2 stacks of 4 (the switches will only stack 6 deep) and linked by port-trunks (2 Gbps)? I see this as a reduction in the bottleneck...

Take Care

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
