I am performing a report on inventory usage. I am displaying the top 10 items that are grouped from invoices. I would like a sub-total on the top 10 items based on a date range entered by the user.

I am using top n and I am currenlty getting a total for others(not in top 10) and grand total but not a correct for the 10 items listed.

How do i go about creating a sub-total for items appearing inmy top n range.

Version is crystal 8.0.

your help is greatly appreciated.

You should be able to insert a running total, sum of amount, evaluate for each record, reset never. Place the running total in the report footer.

Thanks for the response. Based on your response, I am still receiving the grand total and not just the 10 items listed from the top n sort.

I just verified that my suggestion works--but now I'm wondering if you have more than one group. If so, please specify the groups. Also explain exactly how you set up the running total.

lbass - thanks for your response. My report has one group (invetory items)the table contains sales transactions with details(item, price, qty, etc.)

It is the only group on the report and I want the 10 most adtive items (I used the top n feature) based on the sales amount (qty * price - Crystal Formula: EXT) based on a date range the user enters thru a parameter.

To create the running total:

1 - I clicked on field(ext) in details section.
2 - Insert runnig total
3 - Selected the field {ext} in the deatils section
4 - Type of summary: Sum
5- for each recoed
6 - reset never

i am getting the total for all sales and not just the top10.

Thanks for your assistance.

I just checked this again in 8.0 and it works. Are you by any chance allowing "Others" to be checked in the topN/group sort and then suppressing the group if it is equal to "Others"? If so, uncheck "Others".
