All: I have a Magix R4 system that was just installed. I am relatively new coverage things so feel free to tell me if I am smoking too much 'crack'.

I set 5 extensions with 'Primary coverage' either ring immediate or ring delayed to cover the attendants extension. It still takes 8 rings before vms answers.

I need the main line answered in five rings and then vms. What am I doing wrong?

What messaging system do you have? How is your voice mail system currently set up to cover calls?

How is the system currently set up? Did you use the "autoconfigure" function or set it up the more conventional way with calling group 770 as the integrated voice mail calling group? The standard delay for answering is 4 rings before the AA answers - which is what I assume you have. I would play with shortening that delay - as well as the coverage delay you have set up.

All possible coverage paths (primary and secondary) must be exhausted before the Group Coverage (to VMS) will kick in. So if your Operator is covered by primary coverage buttons with a 2 ring delay, and group covered with a 5 ring delay, it will take 7 rings to get to VM. Even if you put the Operator in DND, the coverage buttons will still ring before it goes to VM. If you just want those 8 stations to answer incoming calls, not necessarily cover the Operator's calls, give them a pool button instead with immediate or delayed ring.

As an alternative, you can give all the coverage receivers primary coverage, then adjust the group cover delay rings to get the desired number of rings before voice mail. Group cover delay is under Extensions>More>More> Cover Delay> Group
