I put together a computer with p3 866 coppermine chip but when I go to my windows system properties, it displays that I only have a P2 mmx chip.

Why is that happening and is it affecting my system in a way that since windows only detects the P2 mmx, it is only running at that speed?

Please help.

Welcome to Winbugs, I mean Windows :D
Ignore windows reporting of such things, it's almost always a screw up.
Rely on your BIOS to tell you what's there, and what's not.
Hit the "Pause/Break" key on bootup, and read the black/white splash screen. It'll say what speed, how much RAM, ports, HD's, and more.

True advice.
You say you put this together? Do you have the specs on the board and the chip? Most today are jumper free but better safe than sorry.
You may want to get a bench marking software that will tell you exactly what the system sees. You can get trial ones online.
