In both Crystal 8.5 and crystal XI I created a subreport in a subheader section and all I want to do is to get some balances in the sub report to be printed later in the subtotal of the main report. If I hide or suppress the section the subreport never runs. If I don’t suppress it prints blank spaces.

If I try to minimize the subrerpot object and make my section as small as possible it will always have a small size that will show in my report. If I suppres Blank section even that seems blank doesn’t suppress.

Any clue?

If by "subreport in a subheader section" you mean a header has sections a and b subsections (GH1a, GH1b, etc.) then place your subreport in the GH1a section (shrink as small as possible) and in the format section window click on "underlay following sections".

I guess that you want the subreport to display when there is data, otherwise not take up space.

Not sure what a subheader section is, using actual Crystal terms is generally helpful, but try right clicking the subreport (in CR XI, I have CR 9 so I can't exactly qualify) and select format subreport->subreport and select suppress blank subreport.

Then in the section that the subreport is in, format it to suppress blank section.

Thank you for your reply.

Mr Bill, all will work fine with underlay following sections until I need to suppress print the group footer section (that is part of what i need to get in the subreport) where all records are printed and starts printing the little spaces.

Mr syanpseVampire excuse me I meant group header. Suppress Blank section will never happen if there is a subreport envolved in the section, even if the subreport comes back blank and the section itself is blank and all looks blank continues printing.

SynapseVampire is not referring to section suppression but to the suppression of blank subreports--which is available in XI. In the main report, select the subreport->format subreport->subreport tab->suppress blank subreport. I think you would then need to also use "Suppress blank section" in the section expert.

LB is correct, that's what I meant, and you may have to use the suppress blannk section within the main report.

Not sure what part of my post you misunderstood.

"...but try right clicking the subreport (in CR XI, I have CR 9 so I can't exactly qualify) and select format subreport->subreport and select suppress blank subreport."

Looked identical...

Synapsevampire. thank you for your help.

My initial version is 8.5 and it doesn't have that option. I am almost ready to migrate to XI but I am concern about user deployment.

Anyway is a problem not having an option to place a subreport in for example a hide section where it runs. You don't necesary want to print but you want to run the subreport. The other big problem is that Left outer join doesn't really work in crystal. It will until you do any record selection in the child table.

Thank you again
