Subform problem

Hi,

I am creating a database in Access 2003. I have a main form with two subforms. The two subforms are in the same place, and their visibility is controlled by command buttons on the main form.

One of the forms is a continuous form for searching - what I would like is to be able to double click on a row in the search form, and make the other form visible with the record which was double clicked.

Can anyone give me any advice?

If the subforms are [blue]synchronized with the mainform[/blue] via [purple]Link Master/Child[/purple] properties this may not be possible.

My subforms aren't synchronized with the mainform - should they be?

There's no data shown on the mainform itself, only on the subform - if that makes any difference...

Whats the point of [purple]seeing the same record twice?[/purple] . . . or am I missing something?

Fair Question! The continous form doesn't show all of the detail that the other form does.

What your after is [purple]not a search[/purple] . . . but [purple]a LookUp![/purple]

I believe I see what you want . . . and the following should resolve the problem.
[ol][li]Make a [blue]Single View[/blue] form (Default View property set to Single Form) that includes all fields of interest . . .[/li]
[li]In the [blue]Form Header[/blue] instantiate a combobox set to goto a record (the wizard should do fine).[/li][/ol]
If you run into any problems at all . . . post the fieldnames & data types of the underlying table and we can go instructional from there! . . .

[blue]There's no law that saids the detail area of a continuous form has to be a single row![/blue] You can setup the detail area with as many fields as you like!

The combobox works within that form, but I still can't see how to open that form from another, with the relevant record displayed.

Just to clarify, the search form will be used to find particular records(e.g. all those jobs completed by a particular engineer). I then want to be able to double click one of the records returned by the search to open that record in annother form.

Thanks for pointing out that the continous form can be >1 row - that'll be handy in the future. For this project, I'm trying to mirror an existing (paper) system, to make the transition for the user as easy as possible.
