Strange errors

We are using Backup Exec, an earlier version, and it has started doing some strange things. It started giving me an error message that the tape cannot be ejected before the job runs. I don't have it set for auto eject. I didn't get that today but I got one that said "Media cannot be used with this device". It has also marked the tape as read only. I checked the properties and the catalog is not checked for read only. Any suggestions about what is happening?

Thanks for all the past help with other forums.

1. Is it the correct type of tape for your drive.

2. Have you checked that the 'slider' isn't in the write protect position?

Affirmative on both counts.

1. We have used Travan tapes for some time and this one has been in the rotation (manual).

2. The tab was the first thing I checked.

Could be a bad tape. (?)

It could be that the Label is corrupt. Can you relabel the tape (LABEL MEDIA)? Warning: that will erase and format the tape.

Can't relabel the tape. The other tapes seem to be OK for relabel and erase for the new version. At this point I'm leaning toward the bad tape.

I have installed version 8.6 and now I get the message about "Cannot eject tape before running job". Is this from a DOS command or from something else?

I had the same message and I am on Ver 8.5. My problem was a combination of things regarding the tape itself. The tape had been used so many times it needed replaced, however, even after replacing it, I still had trouble. I ended up changing brand names of the tape and now it works fine. You may also want to try to clean the tape drive.
