Hi,

I cannot get the task schelduler to start in XP. The help file suggests that since the computer is connected to a Domain the system administrators have turned off the Scheduled Tasks Service.

I have admin rights on my local P.C., is there any way I can start this manually?

Cheers

Mark

Turn your PC off - unplug the network cable - power on the PC - and logon onto the PC locally using the local Admin account. If you don;t know the local admin password - before you shut down to do this - create a local account and give it admin priveleges (you should be able to do this if your domain account has local admin rights).

So - power on and log on as a local admin - and then try setting starting the Task Scheduler. Make sure you set each task with a username and password of the local admin account (or equivalent).

Never had this problem but I think might work...not sure of any set tasks will run after you are logged back on the domain but it's worth a shot and I'd be curious to know what happens.

Is it the Task Scheduler service that you are trying to start?

The Task Scheduler Wizard?

A specific Schedule Task?

Thank you JB,

I have it working now, but it was by luck and I still don't understand how it works.

I made a local admin acount, disconnected the PC from the network and got the schelduler running. However the task I am trying to run deletes files from a remote web server, so I then reconnected the P.C. to the network.

So the schelduler was running, but the task was not working because I was attempting to run it under my Novell account, as I thought the web server would require this.

I got the task running by using the local admin account I had just created. It doesn't make sense to me as that account would not exist on the remote web server, but as long as it works......

Cheers
