When starting an Access program that has the Start Up features altered, you can press a function key and shift for access to the database. Is there a way to eliminate the set keys and implement your own combination. I would appreciate your advise.

Kev,
You don't need to hold down both keys, just the shift key would do.
There is a file on my website called lock&unlock.zip that will disable this behaviour on your database. You would then need to put a check on the startup code that sees if you are pressing any keys or it could check the login name to see if you have designer access or something like that.

let me know if you need any more help.

Cheers

oharab, thank you for the info, I am still a little lost. I visited your web site, but still not sure how I can change the start-up avoiding the shift key or how to make another key or keys selection. I would appreciate any further advise.

On the startup menu you just need to un-check 'Allow Special Keys'

If you do that, the only way to bypass the startup code would be to use automation to open the database and change the startup properties programmatically.

As far as implementing your own keys, I don't think it's possible. What I do is use the '/cmd' switch on my shortcut to pass in a command-line argument which I can then process in the startup code.

Example shortcut:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Access\myDBs\DB1.mdb" /cmd "UnlockMe"
