I am setting up a Starplus STS and I can not find any information on the switches except that the battery switch must be on and switch 8 in the dip (switch 5) must be off.

What do the other switches do?

I have installed at least 20 sts systems and I don't leave all switches up!! Read the manual!! Switch 8 off after initiallization!!! I hope this helps...

Yes, the manual covers dip 8 very well. I was wondering about the others.

My only problem at this point is I have not been able to communicate with the Starplus with a computer. I am using a null model cable and xterm but I have no luck. I can make the cable and xterm talk to another PC with no problems. Vodavi won't talk to me because I am not an installer.

You MUST use a striaght thru cable, The manual is incorrect. You will need a gender changer on one end to make both ends female. IF you have a cable that is double female already it will most likely be a Null modem Cable, and wont work.

In additon to what ttech said, the comm. parameters are 8, 1 and none, and set flowcontrol to xon/xoff, or none. I use hyperterminal private additon, or ECOM, or pcplus for windows...Good Luck.

Thank you so much! I was able to connect to the voice mail card and also print the system parameters. I am surprised the manual was wrong about the cable for the voice mail card!

I was not able to access the customer database however. I was conecting to the db9 conectors on the outside of the case. I tried both connectors as well as both straight through and null model cables.

I was using:
Hyperterminal Private Edition
8,1,none,xon/xoff

Yeah, you should be able to do database programming from the 1st, (top) connector on left side of cabinet. once connected, hit enter and you should be prompted for the password...Good Luck.

OK, I had ICLID on. The manual says to make sure SMDR, ICLID and Maintenance Event Traces are turned off, but not in the same place where it tells you how to connect. I am starting to get the hang of this manual. Wow, does it ever need a rewrite.
