Im up against a NEX 8700 and the customer has been shown speech to text, where a voicemail is translated into a text document. Does anyone know if this is achievable with IP Office? is there a third pary application we could use?

Maybe i am missing the point but why speech to text?
Is the user deaf?
When he is then he does not need a phone.
Just send an email.

user wants to dial a maibox and dictae info which then generates a text file which he can attatch to a customers records. He has been show this working with a NEC

Sounds not like a pbx function to me.
But there are enough programs that can do that on a pc.
I do not think this had anything to do with telecoms at all.
If you loose this job only for that then i think you are a lucky man.
This customer will be a nasty one with a lot of demands all the time :)

Indeed, I agree that had nothing to do with the NEC and everything to do with what it was connected to, you do not want to take on troubleshooting something like this unless you like playing the finger pointing game, you are better off without customers like this :)

I think a stupid and almost always a useless feature!

I'd bet big money on it not working very well in practice, if I say something and tlpeter says the same thing it will sound very different due to the accents and I am likely to use slang terms it will not understand. I would avoid it myself :)

I would avoid using voicemail at all :)

Ugg....

1) It is almost NEVER a feature of the PBX nor the vendors voicemail but rather a 3rd party product...even on NEC.

2) It rarely works as well as you would like outside of the demo. Ask him how the guy who did the demo spoke. Was it clear and well annunciated? What do you think would happen when someone with a thick accent called in? Or a person who spoke unclearly or mumbled?

3) Why would you want to dictate to something where you have no control over the document as you speak but rather end up with whatever the system gives you at the end?

If you absolutely must go down this road and want to do it with IP Office look at Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging.

Better yet why not use a product that was actually intended for this purpose?
