I have a query that pulls projects and lists hours worked on by different people on a report. I would like the user to be able to open this query, through a report, and be able to type in the project number to get that project its hours worked only, like a parameter query with dates.

What do I need to put in the criteria?

Just change your parameter query to require a project number.
To limit a user to their specific projects, if you use Access security you can use =CurrentUser() to pull across the username; but if you use Windows networking, use =Environ("Username") is the easy way to pull the username of the current user.
