Im having trouble compiling some new updates, apparently due to my old compiler version. What do the following clauses do and is there another way to accomplish the same thing?

SPECIAL-NAMES.
SYSIN IS SYSTEM-INPUT
SYSOUT IS SYSTEM-OUTPUT.

bcsend.704, line 16: literal expected, SYSTEM-INPUT found
bcsend.704, line 16: literal expected, SYSOUT found
bcsend.704, line 16: literal expected, SYSTEM-OUTPUT found
bcsend.704, line 17: literal expected, '.' found

ACCEPT RCV-STRING FROM SYSTEM-INPUT

bcsend.704, line 434: DATE expected, SYSTEM-INPUT found
bcsend.704, line 434: Verb expected, SYSTEM-INPUT found

In the SPECIAL-NAMES paragraph, SYSIN and SYSOUT are just being directed to the system's regular input and output devices (i.e. keyboard and screen). This is in the help file ...

I would assume that the keyboard and screen are the default I/O devices for the system, so try leaving this section out.

I looked for SYSTEM-INPUT in the help files of versions 5 through 6 and did not find any mention of this. Which version ae you using, and on which OS?
