Is there anyway by which one can run a program compiled for SPARC on an Intel Solaris Program???? When I try to execute a program I get

Cannot execute binary file.
./userlist: Exec format error

I did a file command on the program and this is what i got as output.

"ELF 32-bit MSB executable SPARC Version 1, dynamically linked, not stripped "

Any help will be highly appreciated.

TIA
Sri

no ... but it should be source code compatible ... if you have the source code you should be able to recompile it straight.

No I don't have the source code with me. Does that mean I can't run the program in Intel Solaris???? Also heard that there something called SUNWbcp which is for Compatibility. Will that help my cause.

Thanks
Sri

no ... you can't run the program.

no ... SUNWbcp won't help.

Intel is MSB, Sparc is LSB (may be the other way around, but they are opposite.)

MSB = Most significant bit
LSB = Least Significant bit

basically all numbers, letters, streams and so on are formatted the other way around in the machine, and any instructions written to work at machine code level will be completely incompatible.

what is the software you want? can you get the people who made it to recompile for intel?

Jad,

Thanks a lot for your replies. You deserve a star. No I don't have the Source code nor I can ask the person to recompile the same for Intel Solaris and send it across. Jus gotta kick the keyboard [flame].

Thanks
Sri

is it processor intensive?

if not it miht be worth while picking up an old sparc box off ebay, and running the thing over X (if it is X) or telnet/comm port ...

thats what i've been known to do before now, anyway :)
