SNMP on S8700 & G650 2

Hi,

trying to setup my s8700 & g650 for snmp traps, already checked the docs and seen the setup procedure for the server side.
If trunks are down , do i get SNMP traps? i have not seen a setup procedure for the G650.

(what i want is to snmp every alarm on the media server & gateway to be displayed on my monitoring tool (HP Openview))

Anything that can help will be great. Thanks.

Sounds like you're either headed down the right path or are already there. There is no separate alarming for the G650. All alarm reporting is from Communication Manager.

If you already have SNMP set up, and it tests correctly, you should be there. To test it you could always unplug a T1 outside of normal business hours and watch what happens.

The standard SNMP traps in the 8700 are server side mostly. You will not get all the alarms you see from the Call manager aplication such as out of service TG's etc.

Avaya offers a software suite which will allow you to do what you are asking....It is expensive and very difficult to get running but it is a wonderfull tool.

For a less expensive tool that will do what you are asking try

Also you will need to change some settings from your linux shell not just in the SNMP section of the GUI.

Oh the Avaya version which I love (again it is expensive and tough to configure) is the Avaya integrated Management Suite.

I am sure your BP would love to sell it to you....

Also keep in mind that the way Avaya has thier software setup, you will not get SNMP traps for Warning alarms. Avaya only really cares about the actual box & not what you have hooked up to it like T-1's etc... That why you need something that will extract the alarms.

Both the Integrated Management Suite and Alarmtrax both get all the alarms. I have not seen any other programs out that do the same.

Thanks all. I used configured Avaya Site Administration to report alarms and monitor trunks every 30 minutes. This is to capture alarms on the trunks and include warning alarms....

the down side is, if an alarm happens within that 30 miutes & resolves itself you will never know about it. by not knowing about it you may miss reoccuring issues that may only appear when a worse condition happens.
