SMTP\POP3 connection

i recently have made a program that recieves mail from a POP3 account. but every time i run the NMSMTP1->Connect(); function, it says it can't connect. the host is valid and the port is valid. i think the problem MAY be that i dont have a password along with my userID, but I'm not sure how to do that...is there a Password Field? how do i connect? the error is a runtime error, I'm using BCB 5 Enterprise edition, and it happens on connect...

any help would be greatly appreciated!
